Listed below are some organizations that may be able to provide you with some financial assistance paying for veterinary care. Many of them are specific in terms of the type of medical care they will cover, the state or region where you reside, family income levels, etc.  While the descriptions below provide general information for the organization, I encourage you to check the organization websites for specific, up-to-date information. Pet owners who need financial assistance for the diagnosis and treatment of canine and feline heart disease are encouraged to apply for grants.  Grants are limited to payment for veterinary services pre-approved by the Big Hearts Fund Veterinary Advisory Board.  Application information and forms for pet owners and veterinarians to complete can be found on the website.  Pet owners can also learn more about canine and feline heart disease and ways to improve their pet’s quality of life through resources and articles on the website.

The Animal Cancer Therapy Subsidization Society is a registered charity in Alberta, Canada that is devoted to making cancer treatment for pets a reality. The Lucky Moffat Memorial Fund (in loving memory of a very special dog), was developed by ACTSS to insure that all pets, can receive cancer therapies, regardless of their owner's income.

The Feline Veterinary Emergency Assistance Program is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides financial assistance to cat and kitten guardians who are unable to afford veterinary services to save their companions when life-threatening illness or injury strikes.

The MedVet Good Sam (Special Assistance and Memorial) Fund was established in 1999, well before the development of the Foundation. Its mission was then, and still is, to provide financial aid and support for sick or injured stray animals who are admitted to MedVet by Good Samaritans and animal lovers.  Each grant for assistance is limited to $500 per doctor per year and per patient per year.  Please click here for the criteria for you and your pet.

The Pet Fund is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit association that provides financial assistance to owners of domestic animals who need urgent veterinary care.  Often animals are put down or suffer needlessly because their owners cannot afford expensive surgery or medical treatment. Companion animal owners must often make the difficult decision to put an animal down or neglect medical needs because of the costs involved. The purpose of the Pet Fund is to work towards a future where decisions about companion animal medical care need never be made on the basis of cost.  ALL applicants are REQUIRED to contact The Pet Fund by phone BEFORE applying for funding. 
 
Red Rover Relief

Many of our clients face their struggles without family assistance, their only companion being their trusted pet. Many have chronic diseases such as AIDS and Cancer, and some are simply too old to care for their pets.

Save-A-Life also provides foster care, necessary medical treatment for foster animals, and a placement assistance program to help members of the public place their companion animals.  On occasion, medical assistance is provided to those individuals who could not otherwise afford to care for their pets. 
 
Maryland

The League’s full-service Medical Center has been enlarged and renovated, too. It still provides affordable veterinary care for shelter animals and the pets of low-income guardians.

The Travis Fund
The Travis Fund was established in memory of Dr. Stanley O. Travis, a widely respected and beloved veterinarian. The fund provides financial assistance for the care of found animals and helps responsible owners cover the cost of unanticipated veterinary care. The fund is managed by the hospital administrator, with grants made at the recommendation of the animal's Tufts veterinarian.
 
Massachusetts

At our Metro Action Clinic in South Boston, MA, Alliance for Animals provides low-cost spay/neuter and other veterinary services for both cats and dogs.

Massachusetts SPCA
Angell Animal Medical Center-Boston offers financial assistance through MSPCA’s Pet Care Assistance.  Pet Care Assistance (PCA) was established in 1990 to support the medical care of sick or injured animals being treated at the MSPCA-Angell whose families have limited financial resources.  The fund also defrays the cost of treating animals that are victims of cruelty and abuse. In 2006, the fund distributed over $363,000 to support the treatment of thousands of animals. Annual contributions, special events, and endowment income sustain the fund.

The Save U.S. Pets Foundation, based in New Jersey, is dedicated to providing financial assistance for pets to receive lifesaving medical treatments when their human companions are unable to afford professional care. Through a participating veterinarian, pet owners whose circumstances meet the Foundation's criteria are eligible for a grant enabling their pets to receive desperately needed medical help.  A New Jersey based foundation veterinarian must apply for a grant to provide financial assistance to a client with a pet that needs lifesaving

Ashley's Angel Fund Inc. is a nonprofit organization providing monetary assistance for veterinary care to dog owners whose pet is facing a life-threatening condition.  By providing financial assistance in time of critical need, Ashley's Angel Fund seeks to perpetuate the bond that exists between people and their pets.  Ashley's Angel Fund is home to the Zach Memorial Fund, specifically for dogs with cancer, and the Ashley Fund for non-cancer cases.

The Capper & Chris Save the Animals Fund wishes to help families in need with beloved family pets; especially those pets that would be euthanized rather than be helped when cost incurred would be impossible or a real hardship on a family. Pet owners who are concerned about the health of their pets or who are looking for assistance are requested to speak with their regular veterinarian. Pet owners cannot apply directly for Farley Foundation funding. All applications are made by veterinarians on behalf of pet owners. Pet owners will not receive any assistance through the Farley Foundation office. The Farley Foundation cannot recommend a veterinarian, nor discuss funding applications with pet owners.

The Side-by-Side program is the largest part of SHARE and is currently assisting 220 clients with 150 dogs, 196 cats and 38 birds. Side-by-Side matches financial support, volunteer efforts and donated services with qualified pet guardians in need. Assistance is offered in the form of pet food, veterinary care, grooming, regular visits to clients by volunteers, transportation to the veterinarian or groomer, walking dogs, maintaining litter boxes, and emergency boarding of pets in the event of clients' hospitalizations. Networking with other service organizations in the county is vital to coordinating assistance to the growing number of older adults in Marin. There are 90 volunteers working in the Side-by-Side

When caring for a pet becomes difficult because of a person's illness or an emergency situation, Pals volunteers help by providing temporary pet care. Care can include feeding, grooming, dog walking, litter box and small cage cleaning and rides to the veterinarian. Pals services are available to the elderly, those temporarily hospitalized, the disabled and victims of domestic violence. Services are provided in your home or a foster care home by Humane Society volunteers free of charge. Food and veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the pet owner. Services are dependent on the availability of volunteers.
 
MASSACHUSETTS
Phinney's Friends (MSPCA) – (617) 524-5656
There are three main criteria that have to be met in order for one to become a Phinney's Friends client: A person has to carry a diagnosis of HIV/AIDS; A person has to demonstrate financial need for support from the Phinney's Friends program (i.e. by providing a copy of one's SSI or SSDI income statement); A person's pet(s) must be spayed or neutered. (Documentation is required for all 3 criteria) If you are interested in becoming client and meet all the 3 main criteria, please contact us.  We will need to complete paperwork on you and your pet. Typically a home visit is conducted, giving the client and pet the opportunity to meet the staff and vice versa.
 
MICHIGAN

We further seek to educate the public about the benefits of animal companionship and responsible pet guardianship.
PetPALS of Southern New Jersey is a non-profit New Jersey corporation organized to provide services to the animal companions of people living with terminal, chronic or debilitating illness, or financially needy senior citizens. PetPALS' services are limited based on established policies, including a geographic limitation restricting services to Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Salem counties.

The Seattle Humane Society provides services that help maintain the lifelong commitment of people and pets to qualified citizens in King County. Low-income senior citizens can receive a supplemental supply of pet food. People disabled by AIDS can receive pet food, supplies, grooming and veterinary care.

College of Veterinary Medicine Good Samaritan Fund – (509) 335-4835
To be eligible for financial support through the Good Samaritan fund:
Patients eligible for support will be common companion animal species. Such patients will have a need for life saving procedures and a reasonable prognosis for good long-term recovery.
Patients will be either ownerless or owned by clients that cannot pay for care due to circumstances beyond the client's control. Animals from animal control agencies, humane societies, and business entities will be considered owned and not eligible for funds.
Patients without an owner must have a temperament that does not prevent future adoption.   Good Samaritan funds are only awarded for treatment of animals at the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University.
 
Anacortes Animal Relief Fund (AARF) - (360) 293-2865   
AARF provides financial assistance for low-income pet owners of Anacortes, helping with vet bills, spay/neuter, local food bank donations and much more.  We do not have a shelter; however, we occasionally rescue and foster animals when we have foster families available.  We are completely non-profit, run solely by donations and volunteer efforts.

Pets bring joy and comfort to their owners, and can be an especially valuable companion to people living with HIV/AIDS.
The Pet Program offers help to people living with HIV/AIDS who need assistance in caring for their cat or dog. In addition to supplying pet food through the food bank, PWA offers access to yearly checkups, vaccines and neutering or spaying at reduced rates through seven downtown veterinarians.  More information about the program can be obtained from the PWA Reception.

Our main objective is to raise money to help Bostons requiring assistance with medical and other expenses which are necessary to restore the rescued Boston to optimal health before placement. We help in the location of adoptive and foster homes for Bostons that have been abandoned, abused and unwanted by their owners, or homeless as a result of owner death or disability. We also assist other recognized Boston Terrier Rescue Groups through our activities.
 
Corgi
CorgiAid was established to fund the medical expenses of rescue Pembroke and Cardigan corgis and corgi mixes.  They provide funds for extraordinary expenses involved in care of rescue Corgi's who do NOT have permanent homes. These expenses could be such things as major medical expenses to provide quality of life for rescued animals, transportation expenses to move a rescued corgi long distances to a new home, and other similar expenses.

Boxer through Toby's Gift
Toby's Gift is a special fund to help Boxers in need. While the main mission of the Boxer Rescue Foundation is to provide financial assistance to Boxer rescue groups to help with the costs of foster care, there are many Boxers that fall through the cracks. They are dearly loved by individuals or families; they come from good homes but their owners find themselves facing huge veterinary bills while in a temporary financial crisis. It can happen to anyone. Toby's Gift will help these Boxers in cases of emergency medical need. Monetary assistance will be determined on a case-by-case basis and will greatly depend on need, veterinarian's prognosis, and financial status of the fund. Funds will be paid directly to the veterinarian.

GoldenMED: Will consider monetary assistance towards emergency medical expenses for ONLY Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes, who are abandoned or in need of rescue, and for whom other funding is not available, or is insufficient.  No age restrictions.
Sierra Fund: A fund to aid Golden Retrievers and golden hearted dogs in rescue under 5 years of age with suspected forms of cancer.
Helen Redlus Memorial Fund: For senior and special needs Goldens.  Will consider providing assistance for extraordinary medical expenses for ONLY Golden Retrievers and Golden Retriever mixes who are 8 years of age or older or where the medical needs are extraordinary in a dog of any age.

Dougal's Fund, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable purposes to provide funds for medical care of pets, mainly small, short legged terriers such as Scotties, Westies, Cairns, Norwich, Norfolk, etc., in alleviation of the pet’s pain and suffering when financial need has been demonstrated.  Dougal's normally determines financial need as that instance where professional medical care will not be provided due to the inability of the pet's guardian/s to pay for the services.

Spay and Neuter Resources

Spay/USA is a program of North Shore Animal League America, is a nationwide network and referral service for affordable spay/neuter services. Our mission is to end the suffering of innocent dogs and cats by reducing the number of unwanted births. Anyone who needs assistance finding affordable spay/neuter services can benefit by using the Spay/USA referral service.
 
Spay Pasco - (352-585-6205)
The Coalition for Animal Welfare, West Central Florida applied for and received a generous grant from the Florida Animal Friend License Plate Fund. This grant along with the support of participating Pasco and Hernando County Veterinarians allows us to assist low income pet owners in Pasco and Hernando Counties with spaying and neutering their pets.
 
WeSnip.org - (360-733-6549)
The WeSNIP program was created to provide high-quality spay and neuter service to low income owners.  Owners receiving public assistance (SSD/SSI, food stamps, and others) or of very low income call or email to discuss your eligibility.  Surgery services are free for pet owners receiving significant public assistance (see above).  For pet owners not receiving public assistance but of very lower income (see above) affordable surgery fees apply.  Pets with appointments for surgery are eligible for other services as well.  Cats and dogs from Whatcom County are our priority.  Skagit County pet owners can call and we will evaluate on a case-by-case basis.  Because of funding constraints, pets outside of Whatcom and Skagit counties will not be eligible.
 
The spay station is a mobile spay/neuter bus.  Services are provided first to low-income individuals.  If there is room on-board for those not on public assistance, services are provided at low cost. All supportive medical care such as flea control, vaccinations, de-woprming, ear mite medication, and microchipping are cash only services priced for all income levels.
 
N.O.A.H. (Stanwood WA)  (360) 629-7055
N.O.A.H. Animal Adoption and Spay/Neuter Center is a non-profit dedicated to stopping the euthanasia of pets in NW Washington.  Our low-income spay/neuter clinic is open every day and offers reduced cost spays and neuters for the pets of lower income families.  Vaccinations and microchipping can be given at the time of surgery but are not provided as a separate service.  Please call us to determine if you quality to use our services.  Appointments are required.
